This isn’t your typical dog story. This is a story of Kleo’s last fourteen years: the day she got her dog, Sophie, to the day Sophie loses her battle with cancer. Kleo is a Filipino-American girl who learned early on in her life that it wasn’t going to be easy. Growing up in an abusive household, Kleo wanted a better life for herself and an epic love story, much different than the one she was accustomed to. Little did she know, her epic love story involved two pups. Each chapter takes you on a journey of one year in Kleo’s life with Sophie by her side—and Sophie’s adopted black lab sister, Marlow. Kleo learned that no matter what she went through in life, the only two things that remained constant in hers were her two fur babies.
Through fourteen years of trials and tribulations, love and heartbreak,
moving across the country and other significant life events, Kleo realizes that grief is the strongest force of all—and that grief can’t possibly be experienced without having loved immensely.
Love stories come in all shapes and sizes, and the only thing on earth draws from raw experiences with love and grief. And, after all, the author truly believes dogs are the only thing on earth that’ll love you more than they love themselves.
