Started in 2011, Hub City's annual Great Kids Deserve Great Books book drive delivers at least 4,000 new and gently used children’s books for students at District 7 elementary schools. Our funding partners in this initiative in 2014 are Advance America and the Downtown Rotary Club.
Hub City Bookshop collects good-condition, elementary-school books throughout the year. Charitable contributions help us purchase new books as well. In 2014 we gave more than 3,000 new books and 1,000 gently used books to students at Cleveland Elementary, Houston Elementary and Park Hills Early Learning Center
For those who do not have any books at home to distribute, the Hub City Bookshop has a huge selection of low-cost, deeply discounted new paperbacks for people to purchase and donate to the cause. The Hub City Writers Project, a non-profit organization, also will take financial donations to purchase books.
If your business, institution, or church would like to participate, please contact Sharon at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 864-577-9349.
This program moves important literacy resources from families who have them to families who do not, fostering a community conversation about literacy, reading resources, and community needs.
