The Writing for Empathy Day Camp is a five day intensive writing course for rising 10th graders to examine identity, civic responsibility and empathy towards the intersecting narratives shared by Spartanburg teens. Students will dive deeper into writing through discussion, peer collaboration, wellness exercises, and tailored lesson plans to begin dialogue about owning their voice, sharing their stories, and discovering the similarities that exist among all people to build a broader, healthier community.
The camp will take place at the Chapman Cultural Center June 26-30, 9 am til noon. There is no charge to participate. On the fifth day there will be a concluding, celebratory event.
Rising 10th grade students in Spartanburg County (current 9th graders) will be nominated by English teachers or may self-nominate. A maximum of 22-24 students will be accepted. To register email facilitator Michel Stone email@example.com.
