Writers Well Youth Fellowship Retreat is a four-day workshop on the campus of Converse College for black girls ages 14-19 currently living in or attending school in Spartanburg County. This overnight retreat, open to eight girls, will nurture young female voices in spoken word poetry and other writing genres through writing and performance workshops.
Writers Well takes place Wednesday, July 20th beginning at 2 pm through Saturday, July 23rd at noon. Participants will stay in Converse College dorms and eat meals with Converse food service. There will be guest speakers, round tables, and workshops on such topics are technical and professional writing.
The purpose of this retreat is to build a foundation and sisterhood for young women to rely upon in the spoken word community, and help young female spoken word poets carve out a career path in writing and performance. A performance on the final day of the retreat will be open to the public; parents, teachers and community members will be invited.
The retreat is FREE for all participants.
